Quote:

“Finding Refuge in Places; The Peace of Wild Things

When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.

I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief. I come into the presence of still water. And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and I am free.”

Wendell Berry

Thoughts:

“When despair for the world grows in me…….I rest in the grace of the world, and I am free.”  Beautiful, restful, a relief from anxiety. Resting in grace, resting in peace, resting in beauty and in nature, trusting in the wisdom of the Universe. Words to hold close to our heart, to take comfort in, and to learn to live each day surrendering to.

I watch Aimee as she walks through her day. Always in the moment. Never worrying about what is around the corner or what hovers over head. Although I must say she does get spooked when a helicopter flies by. She watches it carefully, checks with me to see if I too am noticing, and waits patiently until it goes away. She does not get in a tizzy, break out in a skin rash as I might be inclined to do, or let her heart go wacko. She waits.

I am learning to wait. I am remembering to trust the Universe. Lessons, always lessons. Learning, growing, stretching, healing. The world goes on and our lives go on. Differently sometimes; and like Aimee, we can notice, wait and decide.

I like the image in the poem about being in the presence of still water. I like feeling above me the day-blind stars. I like believing I am being held in the arms of grace and love. Like the wild things, I can live free if I am wise and thoughtful and do not let future fear cause me harm today.

I would like to suggest anyone who would care to do so, take one brief moment every day to simply stop! Breathe. And focus your mind on one positive word for 30 seconds: peace, hope, grace, dignity, truth, sunshine, love, compassion, gratitude, delight, laughter, life, birth, birth through death, beginnings, endings that bring beautiful beginnings……

Let’s join together, 30 brief seconds every day, building on each other’s vision, simply offering into the universe our one positive thought of the day that can help set us free always.

Gratitudes:

  • I am grateful for the freedom to walk and talk and meditate and be
  • I am grateful for my peaceful loving quiet holy home
  • I am grateful that my life is changing and I feel in charge of many of those changes.
  • I am grateful I am loved
  • I am grateful there are many who let me love them

Hugs and blessings always, Nancy
