“Vulnerability is not winning or losing; it’s having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome. Vulnerability is not weakness; it’s our greatest measure of courage.”

Brene Brown in her excellent book Rising Strong

Courage! It takes courage to let ourselves be vulnerable. It is not a weakness to show our soft underbelly, as a long ago client called her own vulnerable self. Not knowing the outcome, but doing it anyway is a gigantic leap in faith.

I attended a poetry reading a while back. Amazing! People actually stood up in front of strangers and friends alike and offered their souls. I was moved to tears by the brilliance and the vulnerability and the wisdom, creativity and yes indeed, the astounding courage for each one of those gifted people to expose themselves so bravely.

Think about the courage it takes for you to let yourself be exposed. Possibly to your beloved. Maybe to your friend or child or even the whole world, should you risk stepping out that far. Think about the courage it takes some days to simply get out of bed, go to the grocery store, pump your own gas, get the kids from school……

Have compassion for your fear. Treat your fears delicately, gently, tenderly. And celebrate every single time you move a titch beyond your comfort level. That took courage. Some days are more difficult than others. Every time you step beyond your comfort level you are teaching your brain to remember that you are indeed a very courageous soul and you deserve to be applauded.

  • I am grateful I allowed myself extra focus time today.
  • I am grateful for a warm, safe, lovely home.
  • I am grateful my mind has settled and I can trust again.
  • I am grateful for the life I have been allowed to live.
  • I am grateful for the many many pleasures I enjoy every day.

Blessings and love, Nancy
