“Big-heartedness is the most essential virtue on the spiritual journey.”
How many times have you heard or said, he/she has a big heart! And always that is said with respect and appreciation. A big heart….generous. Kind and loving. To me a big heart means generous, willing to share their love, their gifts, their attention, their regard. It matters, people matter. And we all need to hear that from time to time.
I think having a big heart means being open to giving as well as being open to receiving. If I want to give to you and you can not receive my love or my gifts, you can break my heart. If I experience you as happily receiving what I have to offer, you fill my heart. My heart sings and my feet do a happy dance.
Generosity can go a very long way. The man whose car I backed into was very generous. My dear friend yesterday very generously gave me her time and attention and we solved several questions I had that troubled me. I offer my listening ears and my years of experience and wisdom with an open heart and am grateful when I am received. Generosity goes hand in glove with big-heartedness.
Practice big-heartedness in your life. Wherever you might be. With your family, at the grocery store, on the street car, walking down the street, with dear and beloved friends. A smile, a big heart, a hop in your step. Life can look good. Very good in fact.

I will be in Michigan for about 10 days. I do not know if I will be able to manage my lap top so as to send Missals. I will try. If not, next time I write may be Sept. 26. Take care. Love yourself. And share your big heart.
